The Dawgs' Scrimmages Are Cracking Me Up

Don't get me wrong, I love reading about each and every pre-season scrimmage as much as the next Dawg fan, but come on guys! The media's take on scrimmage outcomes is down right laughable at times. From my coaching experiences, I definitely learned not to take the final outcome and statistics of a scrimmage too seriously. Are there things to be learned? Certainly. Does having 8 sacks for the defense mean that our offense is going to be dreadful? Absolutely not!

First of all, you really have no clue what personnel was on the field when each of those statistics happened unless you were there coaching. Second, all of the statistics are not reported, and those that are reported are most likely not very accurate.

I have read in more than a few places about the defense dominating this weekend's scrimmage, and I am excited by that news. I have every bit of confidence that our offense is going to get the job done with Murray behind center, and the defense will be head and shoulders above what we have seen for the past few seasons!

The Final Countdown

Finally, the week is here where we all get to go experience another "Saturday in Athens"! Of course it will not be the same as seeing the Red vs. Orange or Red vs. Yellow, but watching the Red vs. Black will do for now.

I can't wait to see live and in person the:

-battle for quarterback...
-new speed laced 3-4 defensive attack...
-blitzes coming from all over the place (even if it is vanilla for the scrimmage)...
-Aaron Murray running around in the pocket...
-the best receiver in the USA...
-a running game with a one-two punch like no other...
-that beautiful green grass with the power G in the middle!

G-Day is within site, and April 10th is my little girl's birthday as well. How awesome is it that she wants to spend it watching the boys between the hedges (even if she was persuaded a little bit by pops)!

My Take On Saturday

Well, after talking to one of the officials from Saturday, I found out that you find out very little from an official! Ha! It makes sense that a football referee wouldn't have much to say about the overall performance of a team during a game due to the fact that refs are taught to focus primarily on the area of the field in which they have been assigned.

Ref buddy did say however, that the speed of the defense was just simply ridiculous. There were very few times when a receiver had much room at all to make a catch. Damn! That's quite a change from almost every game I watched last season. Last year's Arkansas game looked like a flag football game with guys running open all over the place each time ARK had the ball.

The other big highlights came from the running backs, according to ref. Both 3 and 4 were running the ball extremely well. This is nothing surprising, as we knew King and Ealey were going to be exceptional next season. But, it does give me a lot of hope for the potential of this offense, especially when I see how good our passing numbers looked yesterday.
