What Do The Last 10 Nat'l Champs Have In Common?

It goes without saying that none of them are my beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Getting past that, at least 80% of these National Champions ran an offensive scheme that people would label as a version of the spread. It comes as no surprise to people that understand offensive football strategy that the game is not "changing", rather, it HAS CHANGED. Check out this list of the past 10 college football national champions:
2000 - Oklahoma
2001 - Miami
2002 - Ohio State
2003 - USC/LSU
2004 - USC
2005 - Texas
2006 - Florida
2007 - LSU
2008 - Florida
2009 - Alabama
Of those 10, I would venture to say that only Alabama's team from last year, and the 2002 Ohio State team ran what one would call an "old fashioned" offensive scheme.

I am using this as a preface to my point. UGA is running an offense that the college game has passed by. Will it still work? Yes, and sometimes the Dawgs do quite well with the scheme we run. But, obviously, it's not leading us to our ultimate goal.

I once read somewhere that Steve Spurrier changes his playbook at least by 20% every single week. What do you guys think? Is it time for the Dawgs to re-vamp the offensive scheme we are running? And, please, do not give me a lecture about how we just finished a streak of scoring 40+ points for 3 consecutive games. I already know about almost every statistic that exists pertaining to UGA football.

We're Going To Party Like It's 1980!

By now, we've all read that UGA finally got it's due with the Princeton Review. With this news, I see that it is only fit that I spend the first year of The Decade of The Dawg partying like it's 1980!

I've mentioned before that 1980 is the year of my birth, but more importantly, it's the last year the Football Dawgs reigned supreme over college football. I'm in search of my retro #34 Dawg jersey, so I can go ahead and start the season off right!

How are we going to do it this year? Just like in 1980; a dominant running game, and a smashmouth defense!

Let's GO DAWGS!

3 Decades Later, The Third Time's A Charm

The 2010 season will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Dawgnation's last national championship. If you're the ultimate optimist about our potential every season, like me, and you like to dabble in the whole luck/faith/superstition thing; you are eager for this season to start so that we can make the third time a charm. Let's say that UGA's championships come in 3's. Every third decade that is! If that is the case, it is more than fine with me, I just hope we shorten the span between the next two!

Go Dawgs! Only 8 more days til I get to see some Red & Black jerseys!

10 Reasons UGA IS A Top 10 Team

I have seen several 2010 pre-season rankings go out on the wire already this off season. I am not quite ready to bust out the Coleman's Top 25 just yet, but I will give the top 10 reasons I think UGA should be in the mix.

10. 3 of our 5 losses in 2009 could have gone either way, which would have led to an 11-2 season (on the flip side, we very well could have been 6-6)
9. The only starter that is not returning on offense is the one that needed to be replaced anyways.
8. It will be the 30 year anniversary of the 1980 National Championship, and I am turning 30...coincidence, I think not!
7. We finally freed Willie.
6. We've got a legitimate NFL DC who is ready to bring back the Junkyard Dawgs of old!
5. With the Ealey/King duo, 0ur running game should be top notch in 2010.
4. Maybe I said this already....Joe Cox is not the QB anymore!
3. The young guns that showed so much potential last year will have a year under their belt.
2. One of the MMMs are going to lead us to the promised land!

And the #1 reason that UGA should be in the TOP 10 next season...
1. It is the Decade of the Dawg baby!
