My Favorite Spring Topics So Far

I am starting to get a quite a bit anxious about April 10th! I haven't even watched any replays of football since the Superbowl, and it is past time for some football! Today I just want to take a few minutes to look at some of the topics that have really caught my attention during the first third of spring football practice in Athens.

5). The atmosphere that has been set up by the new coaches seems electric. Granted, I haven't been to any practices, but Hale and the likes are keeping me very well informed!

4). Is Jakar Hamilton going to be the real deal? I have been on the Hamilton bandwagon for some time now, and I was surprised to see that he is still working in with the second and third team at practice. This may be just for the shear fact that he is new to the program, but who knows. I even wondered if there had been any consideration of giving him some reps at corner since we are THIN!

3). How much confusion will there be for the guys that have no experience in the 3-4? At the end of the day, the goal is still the same, right? Stop the offense from advancing the ball by being in position and tackling with good form. How quickly can we have our guys in position most of the time? That is what I worry about!

2). We all want to know who the starting QB will be, but along those same lines...will Aaron Murray do as well as Tom Brady wearing that pretty glove?

1). And, the number one thing that has me all in a tizzy this spring in Athens....where in the hell am I going to tailgate next season?

A Possible End To UGA's Trash Crisis

Although we all know that the issue of trash is pretty much a scape goat for the University to end all of the drunken fun that is had on campus in Athens, I'd like to throw another suggestion out there as to how we can "Keep North Campus Clean" without ending everyone's game day fun!

I have no raw data, but I am willing to bet that hundreds (if not thousands) of tickets are given in downtown Athens each semester for underage drinking, disorderly conduct, urinating in public, etc. How about taking those that get caught and assigning them to a specific community service program that involves cleaning up North Campus after each home game in the fall? We could save money, clean up the trash, and most likely curve a small amount of mischief that occurs downtown due to unruly students!

Hey, it's just an idea, but a damn good one if I might add! I just don't want to see the University ruin one of the things that differentiates college football in the South from anywhere else on earth. Please don't do this to the fans UGA!

Tailgate Station Is Gonna Make Bank!

I guess with all of the new "we hate tailgaters that drink and have fun" rules, many will opt to take part in some of these new Tailgate Station type facilities that have popped up all over Athens.

So, do any of you out there in blog land want to go in with me and invest in a lot? I'm thinking that if these regulations really stick, the value of a lot in one of these parks may sky rocket.

I'd almost be willing to pay the $16,999 they are currently asking just to snag one of these lots before they are all gone. Wait, Michael Adams might target these type settings next. Then we would all be stuck with a 17k piece of land that is worthless. Kind of like you poor guys that bought your $10,000 Dawg tailgating trailers are now!

WOW Adams! Just WOW!

Hope You Don't Tailgate On North Campus

Come on Michael Adams! I know some people don't clean up their trash, but does that mean you should punish all of us? WOW! Tailgating as we know it may be coming to an end at UGA in the Fall.

Buzz up!

University of Georgia officials unveiled new rules today designed to tone down tailgating parties on the university’s north campus next football season.

The regulations set new limits on what fans can bring and do on the oldest part of the UGA campus, but stop far short of an outright ban on tailgating — an option the UGA committee that drew up the plan did discuss, said UGA President Michael Adams.
“I think they hit a sensible, happy medium for now,” Adams said. Officials will review how well the plan works at the end of the season, he said.
Adams last year said he was dismayed at the amount of trash tailgaters generated on North Campus, where pregame revelers trampled and killed wide expanses of grass.
Adams’ cabinet of high-ranking administrators adopted the tailgating rules with little discussion at a meeting this morning.
Among the items to be banned from North Campus are tents, kegs, generators, televisions, amplified music, grills and cookers, tables longer than 4 feet and household furniture (folding chairs are OK).
In addition, tailgaters won’t be allowed to set up until four hours before kickoff, according to the new gameday regulations.
Georgia’s first home football game is Saturday, Sept. 4 against Louisiana-Lafayette. The first conference game is scheduled for Sept. 18 against Arkansas.
Those changes apply only to North Campus. But a few more new rules will be enforced in all campus parking areas this fall, said Tim Burgess, UGA’s senior vice president for business and finance.
Fans are now prohibited from bringing pull-behind items such as trailers and cookers. Golf carts and ATVs are also banned, and a sidewalk parking ban now has been expanded to include the entire campus, including Carlton Street.
The parking changes are mainly to increase the amount of available parking for football fans, Burgess said.
