I promised myself during this whole ordeal that I wouldn't get caught up in the rumors and search for the newest UGA defensive coordinator. I let myself down, and now Kirby has almost made me cry. I guess he has his reasons, but I think he could have been a legend over here if he built a new Junkyard Dawg defense.
After my initial shock was over some 30 minutes ago, I began to wonder...is this Saban playing some kind of game? Why in the world would Kirby Smart not tell the world that he is staying at Alabama before Nick Saban? So far something is not adding up in this whole situation. Pollack says "Wow so Smart signs a term sheet to join Georgia as their new DC and the. Backs out. Wow wow wow".

Wow. Didn't even know this had happened. I guess UGA served it's purpose as a salary negotiation leverage point.

CMR IS GOING TO HAVE TO WATCHOUT NOW. WE OFFERED BIG MONEY AND NOW WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO OFFER THE BUCKS TO GET A DC. OH WELL WE ARE BECOMING A SOAP OPERA OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

ReplyDeleteBest wishes to Kirby Smart & his family. He probably made the more shrewd decision in terms of being able to land a head coaching job sooner, by staying in ONE spot. It was an uphill battle anyway trying to get a coach to make a "lateral" move away from the new national champions, inside the same conference.
ReplyDeleteWe'll hire somebody soon. If Richt and Evans remained well prepared, hopefully they had already contacted other folks.
As for Kirby, best of luck in Tuscaloosa but he has to he's torched any future bridge back to Athens. If Richt was let go in a year or two, I can promise you they won't call Kirby now.
What's your take on Grantham? I've read lots of mixed stuff about him.
