I am so wrapped up in what happened in Washington yesterday that I may not even bring myself to post a UGA blog today. The sun rose on a different America today. One that is now, as defined by experts, a socialist country. At least we will be once all of the parts of this bill take place.

I guess I could relate this to UGA in that I took several economics classes while I was at the great University. I remember a professor once showing our class statistics on how a country can be defined as socialist based on the amount of the economy that is controlled by government. We are soon going to be well over that amount. Sad, sad day.
On a brighter note, Go Dawgs! At least we still have our football!

ReplyDeleteTime to face the facts: Capitalism just ain't cuttin' it. We have the worst healthcare system in the world. This is not an opinion, this is a statistical fact. This doom and gloom talk, pretending that the term "socialism" is synonymous with some Orwellian dystopia, is far from the truth. The times are a-changing, and this is a step in the right direction.

I took Econ at UGA then I took Econ at UChicago. Drastic differences obviously. I guess learning Econ at UChicago must have been pretty crap b/c I'm a big supporter of the Bill.
ReplyDeleteIf we talk about record spending that does not add to the domestic multiplier let's then talk about the Iraq War - led on the premise of WMD's, how much money was spent there when we should have been finishing the job in Iran and controlling proliferation of Nukes to terrorists from Pakistan.
But I think I missed Dr. Mustard's class on that at UGA.
Anon, that's a typical Liberal strategy. Talk about a war that has nothing to do with the HC bill. HAHAHHA. At least I got a good enough education at UGA to stay on point and plead my case.

What the other Anon didn't mention is that Iraq and Afghanistan don't even come out of the regular military budget which in 2010 alone is over 700 billion dollars. Kinda makes the 10 year 940 billion dollar health care bill look like a trip to the grocery store.

No doubt our current system is flawed...but not as badly as this bill!
