Boise State vs Georgia

Four short seasons ago, I sat in Sanford Stadium and watched the Dawgs absolutely walk all over the Boise State Broncos by a margin of 48 - 13. Since that time, Boise has only been beaten seven other times in 66 games, and the average margin of those losses was only a touchdown.

Why am I talking about this? I just can't figure out why the media blows this team up to be so great. There was that 43-42 victory over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta bowl (highlights...WOW), I'll give them that. To this day though, I firmly believe that if that game was played ten times over, OU would whip BSU the next nine games. I liken that game to the Sugar Bowl when Georgia forgot to show up in the first half against West Virginia. Everyone knows who the better "overall" team was in that game. I remember almost throwing my friend Paul's remote control through his brand new big screen tv when WVU faked that damn punt in the 4th quarter! How could our coaches not see that coming?!?

I guess I am done with my rant for the day, and I will have to give BSU some props for pulling out a tough win last night. On a final note; how about those TCU unis? Those things were awesome! My high school alma matter insisted on adding purple to our black and silver color scheme my senior year, and I hated it. If they would have had some awesome football uniforms like TCU wore last night, we might have won more games!

GO DAWGS!

  1. They did look good and as for the high school thing I belive that they should of asked us befor they had put it in Md made them look so ugly. Now the ones that they have now look better then the one we had when we was there. Now for Bosie and TCU good luck winning all your games if you was in the SEC.

  2. I love your blog Andy! Boise State wouldn't be able to hang in the SEC. Go Dawgs!!

  3. Good writing Andy! I LOVE purple so I like it where ever it shows up....even on your senior uniform. We watched the Fiesta Bowl last night and were happy to see BSU win. Of course we are partial to Idaho in general. By the way......with all the "big bad gnarly" things in Texas, why would they name themselves TCU Horned Frogs?

  4. Pulling out a tough one? Andy, I think you give them more credit than they deserve. TCU put the Fiesta Bowl on a silver platter and handed it to the Bronco's. It wasn't skill or brute that won that game, it was TCU's inability to keep the freaking ball in their possession longer than one down.

If any credit goes to BSU, it's to their defense--which definitely won that game for them last night. Sure, they capitalized off their interceptions and wielded some magic with a fake punt, but I think people are crazy to predict they'll be ranked #2 in next year's pre-season pole.

And there's no way in heck they would beat Alabama. Not in a million years. Alabama's quarterback wouldn't be throwing toss ups to towering safety downfield.

  5. The whole world pretty much knows what would happen to both of those teams if they played in the Big Boy conference.

I've often wondered how scary a "Horned Frog" is in real life.

  6. Forget about the TCU players uniforms--did you see the Cheerleaders? WOW--I gotta go to Ft. Worth

  7. By the way, Andy, if I'm not mistaken Horned Frogs spit blood out of their eyes, that's why they have the red on their helmets.

  8. If BSU played in the SEC, though I believe they are an improving program (picking up more recruits every year) I think they go 8-5 even on a good year. There's no way they could keep pace, take the abuse, play with the speed, or even think of having the depth to endure normal season injuries.

  9. Boise would barely go .500 in the SEC. Who are we kidding? I remember the media hyped Boise a ton before their trip to Athens and the media hyped Hawaii before the '07 Sugar Bowl & we killed them both. Spare me the small school "rah rah".

And TCU is better than Boise. I don't give any credit to the Boise defense. TCU didn't want to be there. The way TCU played all year, they should have been in the BCS title game vs. Bama instead of those overrated, lucky Texas Longhorns who barely beat Nebraska and Texas A&M. TCU beat 3 top 25 teams handily. TCU was embarrassed to have to go to the Fiesta Bowl & play Boise. Happens every Bowl season. Bama last year, for example.

  10. I get the impression that Boise State Is a good little football team that has a lot of confidence and is comfortable with who they are. When their tight end, who was the bowl game MVP, was asked if they were the number one team in the nation, his response was "Probably not.".

i agree with the cheerleader comment..however, i believe it was the drill team in the stands that kept getting the tv time and got my attention. i'm definitely down for a TX visit in general! obviously i'm still partial for the lovely ladies of Athens, GA but hats off to TCU! for their ladies and their D!

  12. Hey dooosh, Boise State owns anyone that steps in their way and they have thumped TCU a few times now...When you beat someone, you are better than them...later hater!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, they owned UGA alright...to the tune of a 48-13 loss. Make sure you write back after Monday's game with V Tech.

    ReplyDelete
  14. How about you call up UGA and tell them BSU wants a rematch of that game and see if they would agree to that game now. Ha! Different team, different day.

  15. Lol.. Thats because you are a UGA Homer.. Lol Whats your excuse gonna be when they whoop your ass opening day?? Cling to that game from the 2005.. Redemption is coming.

  16. Well, put up or shutup time for both fanbases eh? I'm looking forward to this game a lot as a football fan. I'm pulling for Boise but expect it to be hard fought on both sides.

I certainly don't expect either team to "walk away" with this one. If that's how it turns out then Boise St. belonged on that field as an equal, just like when they beat VT last year.

As a matter of fact, if Georgia - with their huge football budget - can't blow out a team with a tiny $6M dollar budget, then that simply speaks to how well coached and athletic this BSU team is.

The onus is on Georgia, BSU isn't "Supposed" to be able to hang with these titan programs across the country. Yet they consistently do...wonder how that keeps happening :p

  17. I dont get why so many people hate on boise when they consistently win teams. Yes, if they were in a "big boy" conference they wouldnt win the conference every year. But with the great coaching they have plus adding a whole new higher level of recruits coming in, it is scary to think of what boise would be capable of. I say stop hating and start appreciating their level of play when it comes to big games. It's not boise's fault that some teams can't handle the pressure and crumble midway through the game. By the way, i believe the dawgs are going to be the underdawgs this opening game, and that by the time the game is over boise will have redeemed themselves after such a horrible loss.

  18. My question is is if Boise State is so bad, then why can't we get more teams to agree to play us? We were scheduled to play Utah this year. Not saying they're the greatest or the worst. But they had to cancel our game because they couldn't afford to lose. And same with Nebraska. Boise State called them, because they want to be challenged, and Nebraska didn't answer whether they would play us or not. Boise State may not be the best, but they definitely aren't the worst. And they have a darn good workforce on that team who I am sure will sooner or later be the best at some point in this country!

  19. You mutts are too stupid to understand, your drunk on SEC kool aid. As it stands no, BSU can't hang in the SEC. BUT, hear this inbreds, BUT, if they were in the SEC they would have the same recruiting pool. See how this all works inbreds?? THEN, they would hang with Alabama every year, the rest of you would be fodder for us and the Tide.

  23. Dawgs got neutered. Broncos....all Broncos. Nuff said.

  24. Haters, where art thou?! I always love hearing about how 'bad' BSU is and so forth, yet they keep winning. Until they lose, until your precious 'big boy' teams beat them consistently, BSU is a top-quality team. Later haters!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, BSU's overrated. I mean, look at the lousy, overrated team they let score three touchdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And, they did beat Oregon, V. Tech and now Ga. in the their opening games, after those teams had all been beaten up in their much tougher conference games...over the summer, I guess.
