Hope You Don't Tailgate On North Campus

Come on Michael Adams! I know some people don't clean up their trash, but does that mean you should punish all of us? WOW! Tailgating as we know it may be coming to an end at UGA in the Fall.

Buzz up!

University of Georgia officials unveiled new rules today designed to tone down tailgating parties on the university’s north campus next football season.

The regulations set new limits on what fans can bring and do on the oldest part of the UGA campus, but stop far short of an outright ban on tailgating — an option the UGA committee that drew up the plan did discuss, said UGA President Michael Adams.
“I think they hit a sensible, happy medium for now,” Adams said. Officials will review how well the plan works at the end of the season, he said.
Adams last year said he was dismayed at the amount of trash tailgaters generated on North Campus, where pregame revelers trampled and killed wide expanses of grass.
Adams’ cabinet of high-ranking administrators adopted the tailgating rules with little discussion at a meeting this morning.
Among the items to be banned from North Campus are tents, kegs, generators, televisions, amplified music, grills and cookers, tables longer than 4 feet and household furniture (folding chairs are OK).
In addition, tailgaters won’t be allowed to set up until four hours before kickoff, according to the new gameday regulations.
Georgia’s first home football game is Saturday, Sept. 4 against Louisiana-Lafayette. The first conference game is scheduled for Sept. 18 against Arkansas.
Those changes apply only to North Campus. But a few more new rules will be enforced in all campus parking areas this fall, said Tim Burgess, UGA’s senior vice president for business and finance.
Fans are now prohibited from bringing pull-behind items such as trailers and cookers. Golf carts and ATVs are also banned, and a sidewalk parking ban now has been expanded to include the entire campus, including Carlton Street.
The parking changes are mainly to increase the amount of available parking for football fans, Burgess said.
